This weekend at the long beach Comic Expo, the 2018 champion of the Dwayne McDuffie award for diversity in Comics was announced. The award, named after the late comic book and animation writer who was one of the founders of Milestone Media, spotlights underrepresented voices in comics and celebrates diversity in stories and creators.

The champion was Archival high quality by Ivy Noelle Weir and Christina “Steenz” Stewart. The book is a secret with ghosts and a style of recuperating mental health.

“I’m super honored to win the Dwayne McDuffie award this year,” stated Christina “Steenz” Stewart. “It means a great deal to get recognition for the work we did to make sure Archival high quality represented the world we online in. We hope visitors having a hard time with their own mental health and wellness can see themselves in the book, and I hope that young visitors of color enjoy seeing themselves as a part of an adventure that anyone can have.”

“It’s such an honor to get this award. being able to share our story with an even wider audience, together with the other great nominees, is truly special,” stated Ivy Noelle Weir. “I hope that seeing these books highlighted encourages more authors to share their diverse stories and influences publishers to seek them out. all of us win when we provide visitors a range of fantastic comics to experience.”
